Vintage 1970s Lantern - Ruby Glass/ Metal Cage

This is a lantern made from thick ruby red glass, with a wire 'cage' 

Looks amazing when illuminated 

I think it would hang from a chain? could also be used up the other way with an LED light inside perhaps? no wiring included

Unusual technique (Italian i assume)? cannot date it for sure. Not my usual thing.
